About Us
Someone At The Door Samba Band
Someone at the Door is a Community Band of over 30 musicians in North Worcestershire, England. Our music is based on Brazilian Samba, blended with influences such as Reggae, Hip Hop, Bhangra, and other great rhythms from Jamaica, Cuba, Africa, USA.
As a Community Band we welcome people of all ages and abilities who want to play, recruiting throughout the year.
We are a non-profit organisation; our revenue being invested in band instruments and development.
We are continually exploring new ideas and enjoy collaborating with other musical groups.
We think the appeal of our band is that we all enjoy what we do both in practice and performance – and we strive to portray this with our energy and enthusiasm! We are lively, friendly, engaging, and fun!
We are currently looking for new recruits to our “Caxia” section, in particular new band members who would like to learn to play the Caxia, which is a Snare style drums, these instruments provide the drive to the grooves we play.
The Caixa section in samba is a crucial part of the bateria (full samba band), often referred to as the 'carpet' of the ensemble. It is typically played with a pair of drumsticks and is responsible for providing the rhythm and energy to the samba.
The Caixa can be played in various techniques, such as 'em baixo' (on the strap in front of the body) and 'em cima' (held above the chest), each with its own set of traditional grooves and rhythms. The Caixa is tuned high and is usually played with guitar strings on the head, giving it a sharp and high sound.
We would practically keen to invite experienced kit drummers or matching band style Snare players, as we feel the skills needed are transferable, however we are just as open to taking on new recruits.
Please contact us for more details on how you can get involved!
